The
Chilliwack River Hatchery celebrated its 25th year anniversary
by hosting an open house on October 22, 2005. Bob Stanton
of DFO estimated that over 1,000 individuals dropped by the
hatchery on this gorgeous fall day, including Barry Penner,
local MLA and Minister for the Environment.
Tom Cadieux and Krista Englund were on
hand with the Chilliwack River Watershed Strategy display.
Once again, the "find your house on the air photo"
was a popular activity and a great way to introduce individuals
to the Chilliwack River Watershed. Attendees also enjoyed
participating in the "Match the Salmon of the Chilliwack
River" activity and the prize draw.
The event proved to be a very effective
way to connect with key individuals who have an interest
in the valley, from residents to visitors to individuals
who have worked in the valley for a long time. Krista and
Tom enjoyed showing off the background materials and distributing
brochures and information about the upcoming watershed forum
on December 1, 2005.
