Spotted Owl Management Plan

Purpose

To show the location of spotted owl habitat and management zones within the Watershed.

Data source(s)

B.C. Ministry of Forests, Chilliwack Forest District., August 5, 2005.

Explanation

The primary objective of the spotted owl management plan approved by the BC Government in 1997 is to provide a reasonable probability that the spotted owl population will stabilize or improve over the long term in the Chilliwack and Squamish Forest Districts. This will be achieved largely by maintaining a minimum 67% of the gross forested land as suitable owl habitat in each long-term activity centre within the 21 Special Resource Mangaement Zones (SRMZs) that were identified in the plan.  The primary goal of forest management within SRMZs is to optimize forest resource values while maintaining a sufficient quantity and quality of suitable owl habitat.
