Purpose

This map shows the location of the boundaries between the different federal, provincial, and local jurisdictions in the Watershed.

Explanation

A number of governments have some form of jurisdiction over area within the Chilliwack River Watershed. Shown on this map are the boundaries of the local and regional governments, Indian Reserves, and provincial/federal protected areas. Local and regional governments with a jurisdiction in the watershed include the City of Chilliwack and the Fraser Valley Regional District (Electoral Area E). The only Indian Reserve in the watershed is Soowahlie IR#14. Several parks and ecological reserves managed by the BC Parks are present in the watershed. South of the Canada-United States boundary, a large portion of land is contained within North Cascades National Park. The remaining land within the watershed on the USA side is within Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest and Whatcom County. In addition to these governments, many other governments have jurisdiction over certain components of the watershed (e.g. roads, watercourses, crown forests, natural resources, etc).
