Purpose
To show the location
of common illegal dumping sites along the Chilliwack
River.
Data source(s)
Fraser Valley
Regional District, BC Ministry of Environment, BC
Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, and
reports from the public.
Explanation
Illegal dumping of garbage, yard waste,
camping equipment, fishing gear, construction materials,
household appliances, and stolen vehicles is an ongoing
issue within the Chilliwack River Watershed. Some of
consequences include cleanup costs, human and
environmental health concerns, habitat loss, impacts to
tourism and aesthetic appeal, spread of invasive
species, and a self-propagating image that this
behaviour is acceptable.
