Forestry Constraints Map

Purpose

To show the location of tenures held by forest licensees in the Chilliwack River Watershed.

Data source(s)

B.C. Ministry of Forests and Range, Chilliwack Forest District.

Explanation

Of the 65,000 hectares within the Chilliwack Landscape Unit, 87% is within the Crown forested land base or the Timber Harvesting Land Base. Primary tenure holders include the Ch-ihl-kway-uhk Forestry Limited Partnership, BC Timber Sales, Probyn Logging, Northwest Hardwoods, and Scott Paper. The 13% of the watershed not within the forestry land base includes private property, non-productive forests, and non-forested lands (alpine, rock, water, etc).

Various constraints further limit the amount of timber that can be logged from the watershed. These constraints include protected areas (parks), Old Growth Management Areas, Special Management Zones (e.g., Spotted Owl Management Areas), and Ungulate Winter Range areas (see Deer and Goat Winter Range Map).
