Wildfire History Map


Purpose

To show the history of forest fires in the Chilliwack River Watershed.

Data source(s)

B.C. Ministry of Forests, Chilliwack Forest District, February 26, 2003.  UTM NAD 83.

Explanation

This map shows the areas disturbed by wildfire in the Chilliwack River watershed between 1935 and 1990.  The largest fires occurred in 1938 (8001 ha), 1958 (875 ha), 1946 (306 ha) and 1967 (214 ha).  All other fires were under 200 ha in size.

The maps included in the Chilliwack River Watershed Atlas are not intended to be legal documents and it is important that users understand their limitations.  The data has come from many different sources collected at different times and therefore there are variations in the information provided.  In addition, the spatial accuracy of both resource and cadastral information will vary.  The maps are intended as a general guide that will need to be refined and updated.   Users are encouraged to contact the originator of the data in order to obtain up to date or more detailed mapping if required.
