LiDAR

Purpose

To show detailed relief mapping of a key stretch of the Chilliwack River between Baker Trails and Slesse Park. This area has been particularly prone to flooding events.

Data source(s)

LiDAR data courtesy Airborne Imaging, Calgary Alberta, April 2008.

Explanation

Detailed contour intervals of 1 m are obtained from an aerial data image process to allow precise geospatial modeling of the river channel and surrounding riparian areas.

LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) is an Aerial Data Image Process used for creating detailed digital terrain mapping.  With the use of laser technology, GPS, and Inertial Navigation System combined, precise geospatial data is acquired.  (Groupe ALTA, a Geospatial Solutions Provider)
